Introducing Amanda Bergamin

Meet Amanda

I am a member of a number of yahoo groups for EQ as well as Quilt Mashup which is an online forum run by Pat Sloan. I have actively participated in Pat's yahoo group and now the forum for about 10 years. I am also a member of Quilting Arts Forum. I read regularly  large number of blogs which focus on Mixed Media, Quilting, Altered Art and a small number of Scrapbooking blogs.

I love some of the new fabric coming out by Amy Butler, Heather Bailey, Patty Young, but Pat Sloan has inspired me for a long time not just her fabric but her patterns and naive style lends itself to using brights through to country/prim. She also is a fantastic Quilting Resource, with her blog and forum and over the years I have asked her plenty of questions and I always get a ready answer.

I get inspiration from lots of sources. From Blogs, to magazines, to my great selection of craft books. Classes are also a great source of inspiration, I have done Mixed Media play days, online classes in machine needle felting, jewellery classes as well as too many quilting classes to remember. Another great source of inspiration are decorating magazines and sales brochures as well as shop displays for the latest colours and new it things.

I have always explained my design style as Fun and Funky, I love bright colours and Hot Pink and Lime Green would be my signature colours. However I am not restricted by this and can adapt to any style as I have been known to dabbled in Prim and soft pretty florals and everything in between.

I love Needle turn applique, hand embroidery and machine quilting. I also like incorporating Mixed Media an ephemera in designs. After doing everything by machine I discovered that I loved needle turn applique when my son was born and I didn't have time to disappear out in my sewing room. I truly found my niche. For the last few years I have done a lot BOM by various designers but I am definitely ready to do more of my own designs.

I am excited about working with all types of textiles and learning new technique and mixing it with dyes, and paint and other forms of embellishment. I am currently working with lots of recycled wool but the patterns can be transferred to cottons or any other types of fabric.

I also make jewellery which is for sale on my Etsy featuring recycled sari yarn.

Amanda has put together a wonderful tutorial for a wall quilt called Pretty as a Picture.  If you have never tried needleturn appliqué now is the time as Amanda has included instructions for how to do this in her comprehensive tutorial.

You will find Amanda's tutorial for Pretty as a Picture here.

Just lovely Amanda! I especially love how you have styled the photo with an antique machine.
