This modern peg bucket will keep your pegs close at hand. With its handy carabiner hook it can easily clip to your clothesline, clothes airer, or belt. Constructed with a drawstring closure and toggle, it will keep your pegs in place when it is stored in the laundry. It also has a handy front pocket to keep your telephone or iPod close at hand while you are busy in the laundry. 

The So Fresh Peg Bucket is constructed from white hanky linen and features sashiko stitching, and a Prints Charming Embroidery motif on the exterior. The lining is made from Del Hi Ruby fabric, with a Del Hi Tangerine fabric used for the casing. Structure to the bucket is given with pellon fusible wadding. Your Laundry Room has never looked So Fresh!!

Please read all instructions before commencing the project. Careful and accurate cutting and sewing is essential to ensure success with this project. It is recommended that fabric be 100% cotton, pre-washed and well ironed. Requirements are based on fabric and batting 112 cm wide (44 in).

Materials:

0.25 m white hanky linen (exterior)

Printed motif (approx 15 cm x 15 cm) on base fabric approx 22 x 22 cm(pocket)

0.25 m quilting cotton (lining)

0.1 m quilting cotton (casing)

Spring toggle – white

0.9 m elastic cord

Carabiner hook

D ring (2.5 cm wide)

2 pony beads - orange

Cut Fabrics

From the hanky linen –cut a rectangle measuring 68 cm x 24 cm

From the lining fabric – cut 2 circles with a 21 cm diameter, and a rectangle measuring 68 cm x 24 cm

From the pocket fabric – cut a rectangle measuring 22 x 20 cm (adjust for size of motif)

From the fusible Pellon – cut a circle with a 20 cm diameter, and a rectangle measuring 66 x 23

Exterior

Fuse the pellon pieces to the hanky linen and a circular base, following manufacturers directions.

Use a hera marker or water soluble marker to draw lines 5 cm apart on the linen rectangle, starting at the centre and working outwards.

Using the crochet cotton, stitch a running stitch along the lines on the linen. The stitch length should be approximately 3 mm.

Press under 1 cm on the sides and base of the pocket. On the top edge, turn under 1 cm and then turn under again. Press. Stitch the top fold down. Position the pocket in the centre of the linen and stitch in place along the sides and bottom.

Fold the exterior rectangle in half with the right sides together. Pin the back seam together, and stitch along the edge using a 1 cm seam allowance. Press the seam open.

Pin the sides of the bucket to the circular base of the bucket. Sew the base and sides together using a 0.5 cm seam allowance. Tip: It is easier to sew a curved shape to a straight shape.

Fold the twill tape over the D Ring and stitch ends to secure. Centre the twill tape over the back seam and baste in place.

Lining

Fold the rectangle quilting cotton in half with right sides together, and stitch the back seam using a 1 cm seam allowance and leaving a 12 cm gap in the middle for turning.

Pin the circular base to the lining and stitch in place using a 0.5 cm seam allowance.

Casing

On the strip of casing fabric, fold in 2.5 cm at each end. Then fold in half lengthwise and press. Pin the casing around the top rim of the bucket so that the ends meet at the centre back seam. Adjust the folded ends as necessary to achieve a good fit. Baste in place using a scant seam allowance.

Assembly

Place the bucket exterior into the lining so the right sides are together, and matching the back seams. Pin around the top edge. Stitch around the top edge using a 0.5 cm seam allowance.

Turn the bucket out the right way through the gap in the lining. Hand stitch the gap in the lining closed. Press.

Topstitch around the top of the bucket just below the casing.

Thread the elastic cord through the casing.  Attach the toggle. Tie a pony bead onto each end of the elastic.

Attach the carabiner hook to the D Ring.
